VHT FlameProof SP117 is a flat aluminum aerosol coating for surfaces exposed to extreme heat. The manufacturer describes the FlameProof range as withstanding intermittent temperatures from 1,300°F to 2,000°F (704°C to 1,093°C). SP117 is the flat aluminum color in the range; this is a single-stage coating supplied in an 11 oz aerosol can.

Applications and curing

VHT lists headers, collectors, exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes, mufflers, turbo housings and down pipes as applications. The manufacturer cautions that the coating will not bond well to stainless pipes. Aluminized and galvanized pipes must be sandblasted and cleaned before application. Apply only to a properly prepared surface and follow the instructions on the can. The coating must be completely dry before curing. For on-vehicle curing, VHT specifies 10 minutes at idle, a 20-minute cool-down, 20 minutes at idle, another 20-minute cool-down, then 30 minutes under normal operating conditions. Off-vehicle curing uses 30 minutes at 250°F, cooling, 30 minutes at 400°F, cooling, then 30 minutes at 650°F. Consult the product label for complete application and curing directions.

Safety and ordering

This is an extremely flammable, pressurized aerosol. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area; keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources, and do not spray on a flame. Do not pierce or burn the can, even after use, or expose it to temperatures above 122°F (50°C). Follow all label and safety data sheet precautions and keep out of reach of children. One 11 oz can is included. Primer, clear coat, surface-preparation materials and other items are not included.

Returns: Eligible new, unused items in original packaging may be returned within 14 days of delivery with prior authorization. A 15% restocking fee and return shipping apply to non-defective returns. Spray equipment is returnable only if unused with its factory seal unbroken; used or installed spray equipment and custom-mixed paint are not returnable.
